lyrics

What the alcoholic knows -
Is why - after all these years - all those passes - all these years
The no thank you’s and the maybe laters, and all that other shit
He still calls himself an alcoholic.

Because sobriety is not a thing you achieve,
It’s not race you win,
It’s not a medal to adorn
It’s a choice you make the same way every day
It’s a choice that doesn’t lead you anywhere that far from it
And so he still calls himself and alcoholic

I have mistakes - reason forgive me
I am happy where the alcoholic sits
In the corner, on a bar stool, in crowded place alone
In the reflections of these things I exist

What the depressed teenager knows
Is why - despite his youth - all those possibilities
There is no truth.
to partake in happiness
you must Sign your name, But he chooses not to.
And he sees the world in black and grey.

Because happiness is not for everyone
It’s not not mandate to succumb to
It’s not a medal to adorn
Its a form, at the bottom of a busy draw
He’ll get to it one day but
for now the world in black and grey

I have made mistakes - reason forgive me
I am happy where the depressed teenagers sit
In their bedrooms, in their idols, in the posters on their walls
In the reflections of these things I exist.

What did the girl know in the chorus on the west end stage,
What did the stranger on the street know who who became entangled in her gaze?

What did the builder know in his hardhat as he built his wall up high
What did the tenant and her daughter know who could no longer see the sky?

What did the deer in the headlights know as the car came flying past?
What did the driver and his friends know who didn’t stand a chance?

What did the half-asleep post-man know as he dropped the letter through the door?
What did the crying wife know as she filed for a divorce?

small decisions made the same way everyday will leave you with nothing more or less than the illusion of change.
